KABUL, 8 April 2013 – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) expresses its serious concern over the deaths of at least 11 civilians, including 10 children and one woman, and injuries to seven others, in an armed clash during a joint Afghan-NATO operation against the Taliban which took place recently in the Shaigal Wa Shiltan district of the eastern province of Kunar.

KABUL, 4 April 2013 – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) strongly condemns an attack against a Government compound in the south-western province of Farah on 3 April that resulted in the deaths of at least 41 civilians, most of whom were civilian Government workers, and injuries to more than 100 others.

KABUL, 10 March 2013 – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemns the two suicide attacks carried out by anti-government forces on 9 March 2013, which resulted in the deaths of at least 19 civilians, including nine children, and the wounding of at least another 31 civilians.

KABUL, 7 March 2013 – As we observe the International Women’s Day, government representatives and activists are gathered at the United Nations in New York for an international gathering on ending violence against women. The message is clear: A Promise is a Promise – Time to take Action on Ending Violence against Women and Girls. At the 57th meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women, governments are negotiating a global roadmap of actions to prevent and end these widespread human rights violations.

KABUL, 26 February 2013 – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is deeply concerned by the ongoing sectarian violence in Pakistan. On 17 February, in his second statement on the issue this year, the Secretary-General strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out on 16 February in Quetta that targeted the Shi’a Hazara community resulting in more than 80 persons killed and nearly 200 wounded, many of them women and children.

'Civilian casualties in Afghan conflict decrease for the first time in 6 years'
Kabul, 19 February 2013 – Civilian casualties in Afghanistan’s armed conflict decreased for the first time in six years, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said today in releasing its 2012 Annual Report on Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict prepared in coordination with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
