Afghan civilian casualties similar to record levels of 2011 - UNAMA report
8 February 2014 – Reversing a decline in civilian casualties recorded in 2012, the number of civilians killed or injured in Afghanistan’s armed conflict increased by 14 per cent in 2013, according to a new United Nations report released today.

KABUL, 2 July 2013 – Below is the near-verbatim transcript of a press conference by the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jan Eliasson, just before wrapping up his visit to Afghanistan.

Jan Eliasson: Thank you very much. Good morning. I am Jan Eliasson. I am the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. I have been here for five-day visit, which is unusually long for me. I found it extremely interesting and very useful to be here in Kabul and also to go to Kandahar, where I spent a day on Sunday.

Ahead of Council meeting, UN envoy highlights rise in Afghan civilian casualties

11 June 2013 – Ahead of next week’s Security Council meeting on Afghanistan, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative in the country, Ján Kubiš, highlighted that the security environment for Afghan civilians has worsened this year, with a 24 per cent rise in the number of civilians killed and injured compared to the same time period in 2012.
